Learning Objectives
Students acquire fundamental skills in dealing with a social issue, especially in a co-operation in the public sphere, and become familiar with the special research tools through interdisciplinary working groups and lecturers, both practically and theoretically.
In order to deal with such complex issues, it is of great importance to expand the competence networks through the different backgrounds from the study subjects and in cooperation across the various disciplines.
Content
Grimselwelt is a unique world between nature and technology. Dreamlike landscapes meet hard-hitting concrete. The large hydroelectric power plants are an essential part of the European power grid, which is more in the spotlight than ever in the current energy crisis. With their CO2-neutral electricity production, they are also a symbol of sustainability and have shaped the landscape at the same time. Naturresort Handeck also stands for sustainability - as a nature-oriented tourism destination in the rapidly changing environment of the Alps due to climate change.
What role do we humans play in this context? How are the topics connected? What contribution can we make with our strategies from design, film and art and what experiences do we create in the process? All of this will be explored in this interdisciplinary project in cooperation with the Grimselwelt region and will result in contributions for a temporary art walk for the 2025 summer season along a one-kilometer hiking trail in the 100th anniversary year of Kraftwerke Oberhasli (KWO).
The content of the module includes the relationship between people, people and nature as well as the creation of interfaces between society and nature in contexts such as sustainability, identity, communication and history.
The inputs come from social, ecological and touristic backgrounds (especially through the cooperation with the partner Grimselwelt), but also from the practical areas of art and design. Lectures and discussions encourage a critical examination of the topic, and the creative approaches and positions of designers and artists are discussed and reflected upon.
