The open-ended design process for the ‘Apothekergärtli’, a small park on the roof of the boathouse in Lucerne, focused on the needs of users and other interest groups as well as the role of visualisations of future uses.
The ‘Apothergärtli’, designed in the style of the 1970s, has hardly been changed since it was built. The outdated, unorganised design, which invites littering, makes the ‘Apothekergärtli’ an unattractive place in an actually beautiful location. The ‘Weitsicht’ project utilises its potential as a place of retreat with a view of the lake and mountains: an open, palisade-like wooden structure is used to deliberately separate the area from the hustle and bustle of the city and the Ufschötti lido, which is very busy in summer. At the same time, openings provide views. A central expanse of water allows visitors to let their gaze wander and find peace and quiet.
