Spatial design is a multifaceted and contemporary discipline at the interface with other spatial disciplines. The design of spatial environments means integrating functional, physical, digital, interactive, communicative and social aspects. It makes a meaningful and valuable contribution to aesthetic practice.
The value compass is to be understood as an orientation for studying and teaching and forms the basis for finding and working on topics. Our values are a guiding framework, help to make decisions and offer a set of arguments for project and design proposals as well as for the choice of aesthetic or technical means. They offer scope for application and interpretation in the respective concept. The intention pursued with all values is to place the user at the center of our aspirations and passion.
Emotions in physical, digital and hybrid worlds: We create spatial experiences with meaning and impact.
Our physical existence is fundamentally spatial, and therefore our experiences, which in their entirety make up our lives, take place in spaces. This fact makes experiences a central component of spatial design, which also considers virtuality and imagination. The quality of experience is subjective, but by no means arbitrary, and can be influenced accordingly by designers.

Ability to empathise: We recognise the needs, emotions, motives, intentions and thoughts of users and align our projects and design decisions accordingly.
Empathic skills can provide us with valuable information about others and ourselves. Consciously utilised and cognitively controlled empathy enables goal-oriented actions and guides reflection and planning processes. Spatial designers understand how to use this knowledge and utilise it to achieve their objectives.

Commitment to societies and individuals of all kinds: We address issues of social relevance and develop projects with tangible and positive effects.
Spatial conditions are part of social negotiation and create the conditions for actions and reactions. They can have a strong influence on people's moods and favour or counteract situations. Spatial designers take the initiative to exert a positive influence and are committed to meaningful participatory and social processes.

Consideration, foresight and networking with everyone on this planet: We create design solutions that understand the environment as a shared world and are committed to it.
The understanding of space encompasses the direct spatial environment with which our bodies come into contact, the more far-reaching environments such as buildings through to (urban) landscapes. The relationship between technosphere and biosphere is just as important here as the interconnectedness of living processes. In this respect, we are not talking about an environment that is decoupled from the world around us, but about an environment with which we are connected and networked, even across temporal dimensions.

Innovation through evidence-based processes and a spirit of research: We learn experimentally and practically and expand the boundaries of previous knowledge.
Experimental design means exploring the best solution. Previous dogmas can and must often be questioned, whether in terms of personal knowledge or the professional status quo. Mastering the challenges of our time means wanting to break new ground. Spatial Design is always trialling new technologies and remains open to the unknown. Great importance is attached to the traceability of findings, as decisions are based on evidence that determines further work.

Expertise and know-how for better design: We develop a wide range of knowledge and strive to find the best solutions for a wide range of tasks.
Working at the interface between different disciplines means having diverse media, technical and conceptual skills and being able to communicate with experts. Mastering the basics of craftsmanship and specialising in defined areas is just as much a part of spatial design as the intellectual examination of theories and thinkers on space.
