Rooty is a compostable discus, used by Lea Bissig to demonstrate a light-hearted and playful engagement with mycelium materials as a substitute to plastic. The well-known game of Frisbee provides a concrete inducement to come into physical contact with this new material. Fair play is the top priority in international Frisbee competitions; and in precisely the same way rooty stands for fair play in the use of the planet’s resources. This manifests itself in the closed production cycle. The material is created from industrial by-products and waste products, and at the end of its life the discus can be composted at home, thus providing nutrients for new plants.
