In the process of exploring the traces of her Kurdish ancestors, Aynur Turunc discovered the textile heritage of Kurdish women and decided to follow this ancient tradition. In doing so, she worked together with a partner studio in Van. The city lies deep in eastern Turkey in an area predominantly influenced by the Kurds. The kilim workshop is a social project that provides young women with a degree of independence, and that is meant to support them in various ways. This bachelor project demonstrates the manner in which a design cooperative can function together with a social workshop, and how it can lead to the creation of a Swiss label. JIN kilims are one-of-a-kind designs, each characterised by the work of the respective weaver, and stand for quality, sustainability and modern design.
