CONTENT
Four questions provide the structure for the module:
1) What do we find funny and why?
On the basis of the examples provided by the participants we will try to clarify what we find funny.
2) How do comic strategies work in Art and in the genre of comedy?
Research presentation and discussion will take place on artists that use comedy, experimental comedians, comic book illustrators, (animation) filmmakers etc. as well as the similarities and differences between how comedy works in these different fields.
3) How can comedy be described?
The current debate will be compared with and supplemented by the examination of basic theories of comedy.
4) How does comic strategy function in your own work?
In the module individual projects will be designed through discussion, then these plans will be implemented and the project developed to the stage of presentation. The nature of the project, the choice of medium and the constellation of the people in the groups are free for the participants to decide.The module is aimed at students who would like to explore the possibilities of comic strategies in their artistic and creative work through a self-initiated project. (Art, Illustration, Video, Graphic Design, Photography, Animation)
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The students develop an understanding of the attention and attitude that makes something seem funny or inappropriate and understand this in relation to their own experience.
They are able to try out new strategies and media and thereby expand their creative and artistic possibilities. They know the basics of the most important theories on and forms of comedy.
They understand and can discuss in the group the possibilities available in terms of narrative, form and media within their personal project and can develop their concept to the stage of presentation.
