Our lecturers and research staff at the Immersive Realities Center have a broad-based network at their disposal. We work intensively with international university partners on projects and in education, we maintain close contact with the Swiss ImmTech scene and various companies that use immersive technologies productively in their operations, we organize conferences and other networking events, etc. Our students also benefit from these diverse contacts – be it through exciting project modules, top-qualified guest lecturers from the field and a wide range of networking opportunities during their studies.
Research and Services
The team of the Immersive Realities Research Lab investigates the possibilities of immersive technologies from a user-centered point of view, develops new forms of interaction, develops prototypes and applications, and conducts feasibility and user studies. In addition to various national projects, the team is currently involved in several EU-funded research alliances, such as TransMIXR and Perceive.
Education and further training
The training of qualified experts is an affair of the heart for us, because they are important for the further development of our technology area and the key to high-quality applications. For some time now, we have been offering various Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in the field of immersive technologies. At Bachelor's and Master's level, students have so far been able to take individual modules and majors in AR, VR, Game Design & Game Development. The BSc Immersive Technologies, which is unique in Switzerland, now rounds off this range of services and enables students to delve deeper into a wide range of aspects of the technology sector and to be trained to become sought-after specialists.
Operations and Public Outreach
Our range of services includes offering guidance and support to SMEs in their project work and initiatives – through knowledge transfer, consulting, and joint projects that we implement together.
Since 2021, the Immersive Realities Center has a showroom where a wide variety of consumer and B2B hardware and software can be tried out and tested. In addition, it serves as a meeting place/networking hub and a variety of events, seminars and conferences dealing with immersive technologies take place on a regular basis.
The exhibits in the showroom include a wide range of different headsets and demo applications from our research projects or student work. However, we also work intensively with our partner network, which also makes their applications available to us for demo purposes. In this way, our visitors can experience the full diversity and enormous potential of immersive technologies based on concrete examples from different industries. And of course, our students also benefit from the comprehensive hardware and software pool.
"The mission of the Immersive Realities Center is to promote the dissemination of immersive technology. We support SMEs in their use by providing them with access to hardware and software, help with projects, and training and further education of specialists. In return, our students benefit from our broad-based network in a variety of ways." - Nathalie Siri, Coordinator Public Outreach Immersive Realities
