Laser doppler anemometry (LDA) enables non-intrusive measurements of local flow velocities in two dimensions. The laser light is reflected by tracer particles in the fluid flow. The reflected fluctuating laser light then is detected by the photodetector. The optical signal is converted in the photomultiplier into an electric signal which is analyzed with the BSA flow software from Dantec Dynamics.
Phase doppler anemometry (PDA) is an extension of LDA and enables a simultaneous measurement of mass flow, velocity, size and concentration of spherical particles, droplets and bubbles suspended in gaseous or liquid flows.
A very common application is the characterization of atomized liquids (sprays) in industrial or pharmaceutical applications (e.g. spray painting or spray drying) or the analysis of the dynamics of bubbles in the case of cavitation.
The infrastructure is available for research and provision of industrial services.
