Overview
In this adiabatic system, water is directly atomized into the room via spray heads that are placed on walls or on the ceiling. The goal is the development of a visually and acoustically inconspicuously operating and energy efficient humidification system. Adjacent surfaces must not be moistened through the atomization. Furthermore, due to the introduction of minerals in the atomized water, the particle concentration in the room air must not exceed specific limits. The physical processes during the atomization of the water and the subsequent evaporation are examined theoretically and experimentally with the help of LDA/PDA laser measuring technology.
Simulations and observations showed that droplets evaporated completely after a sufficiently short distance. The humidification with raw water is technically feasible and the increase of the number of particles and the mass concentration in the room air is within the tolerance range. In order not to increase the particle contamination in the room air, water treatment is recommended. Basically it can be shown that direct adiabatic room air humidification works and is advantageous in comparison to conventional humidification systems.
