The characteristics and physical properties of different storage materials are of significant interest for storage applications.
The Competence Center Thermal Energy Systems and Process Engineering has an analysis laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art measuring instruments, which can be used for the precise measurement of the material properties. Additionally, the Thermal Energy Storage research group is also involved in the new development of calorimetric measuring instruments for the improved characterization of storage materials.
Research themes include the analysis of phase-change materials (PCMs), among others. Materials whose phase change from solid to liquid is used for storing thermal energy are known as PCMs.
