“HAZEL”, a seating element for two people, is made of young green hazel wood. The design and the construction mode draw on the classic Windsor chair with its solid seat, concealed joints, curved back and fine rungs. The prime material is local hazel wood. The relatively consistent form of hazel wood, as well as its malleability in both its early green phase and when dried, make it an optimal material here for the legs and back. The CNC-lathed seat of solid wood conceals the connective elements and assures stability. The use both of manual and digital processing techniques highlights the conscious fusion of the timber’s natural qualities with the formal intent. The blackened surface and organic transitions lend the design a homogenous look.
