In which language is the BA Illustration taught?
German is the official language of instruction on the BA Illustration programme. Most lecturers speak good English and French. We recommend a minimum language level of B2 in German. It is advisable to attend language courses from the interdisciplinary study area during your studies.
Is it possible to study part-time on the BA Illustration programme?
Unfortunately, part-time study is not possible due to the structure of this degree programme.However, it is possible to take a year off to earn money.
Can I apply for both specialisations, Illustration Fiction and Nonfiction?
In your application, you must choose either Fiction or Nonfiction. If you have difficulties deciding, you can mention this in your letter of motivation. In this case, both commissions may review your portfolio.
Is it important that I show originals, or can I also submit reproductions?
Reproductions are possible, but these should not be the only works in the portfolio. The Illustration course requires an analogue portfolio, as the assessment of suitability on the basis of original works is of central importance.
Should I enclose sketchbooks with my application?
Sketchbooks are very welcome. Unfinished works and development steps are exciting - the decision-making committee is happy to receive surprises.
What should I pay attention to in the application portfolio?
Size and layout: A portfolio should be easy to handle. It is important to make decisions and make a careful selection. If you want to show everything, you may find it difficult to make a decision.
