IDN Spatial Development and Social Cohesion

The interdisciplinary network “IDN Spatial Development and Social Cohesion” offers guidance and support to researchers at the HSLU collaborating with partners from business, society and academia to address current challenges in spatial development. Their focus is on advancing an integrated understanding of space.

The complexity of social challenges (urbanisation, digitalisation, climate change, individualisation, demographic change, migration, etc.) requires an inter- and transdisciplinary approach to space. The IDN’s activities centre on a comprehensive socio-spatial reflection based on social and built structures and on the people and their day-to-day activities. This opens significant innovation potential for the development of sustainable solutions to address current issues in spatial development. 

The “IDN Spatial Development and Social Cohesion” is dedicated to exploring five focal themes:

  • Building Culture in Communal, Urban and Regional Development
  • Energy Transition and Social Space
  • Housing and Sustainability
  • Cultural Participation and Public Spheres
  • Smart social infrastructures

Core team and advisory board

The core team consists of representatives of the HSLU, the advisory board of external experts working in spatial development. Their role is to provide guidance around the IDN’s content development and network-building (in German).

IC Spatial Development and Social Cohesion

The “IDN Spatial Development and Social Cohesion” is the successor platform of the “IC Spatial Development and Social Cohesion”, which pursued the goal of advancing integrated spatial development to strengthen quality of life and social coexistence between 2018 and 2023.
