Influencing the functional pore structure of biomaterials

This work deals with the production of biomaterials for bone regeneration. In particular, the modification and optimisation of structures and surfaces and the chemical composition for improved osseointegration and regeneration.

Project objective:

Development, production and characterisation of a synthetic biomaterial with cell-accessible pore space for effective osseointegration and bone regeneration.

Skills to learn:

  • Procurement and evaluation of suitable raw materials and production of prototypes in a high-temperature furnace
  • Generation of an interconnecting pore space through the use of pore patterns
  • Chemical and physical characterisation of the prototypes, colonisation with cells
  • Assessment of the manufacturing processes in terms of costs and energy efficiency
  • Exciting insights into versatile application-orientated research and development
