Classical employment is no longer the only career path after graduation. Found your own start-up business while studying and gain valuable business experience in the process.

In the Business Engineering | Innovation program, you can invest up to 20% of your academic achievement in your own business. This way, you can save valuable time and take advantage of the HSLU's excellent infrastructure. 

Why become a founder while studying?

One of the benefits of not waiting until after graduation to found your start-up company is that you can develop your business idea in the safe environment of your degree program while benefitting from the extensive know-how of our lecturers. Business engineers often act as a link between strategic management and operations. Knowing everything there is to know about the structure of a company is useful in this environment. And that’s also the case if you opt for employment with an SME or a large corporation after graduation.

Have your entrepreneurial skills certified

In addition to your bachelor’s degree, you can get an Entrepreneurship Certificate. How?

  • Take 12 ECTS credits worth of modules with an entrepreneurial orientation.
  • In the third study year, you write an entrepreneurship-centered project assignment about your business idea.
  • A project head from the “Smart-up” scheme will conduct an assessment interview with you.

Concept Iris GmbH: The two friends already started developing their IRISgo coffee cup as students. They started out by building a prototype in the Design Studio, went on to win notable innovation prizes and have now secured the funding for the production of the first batch of cups through a crowdfunding campaign.

Chipeño GmbH: when a semester abroad yields a business model. During his exchange semester in Mexiko, Samuel Graf learned to love Chipotle Mayo. He immediately knew that he just had to bring it to Switzerland. Samuel is now self-employed and selling three different Chipotle sauces with his team of co-founders.

“zevvy”: this web product makes billing solar power, heat and utilities for apartment buildings so much easier. Thanks to zevvy’s user interface, users can draw up a solar power bill in a matter of minutes and sell the surplus electricity to other units in the building.
