Simulation and Analysis of Buidlings and Districts Decarbonization of energy supply through on-site (thermal) networks

Switzerland’s 2050 Energy Strategy identifies the most important challenges of our time for the building sector. In this context, the Institute of Building Technology and Energy IGE is looking for new ways to create networks for energy flows in buildings and districts. The IGE research group works with physics-based models, validates the resulting data through experiments in the laboratory and uses data collected in existing buildings to optimize their operation.

Simulation

Simulations allow for “rapid prototyping” and create planning security. This allows for efficient, economical and viable concepts to be developed in inter- and transdisciplinary collaborations. Our researchers seek sustainable solutions to complex problems and they are proficient in dealing with both temporal and spatial scales.

Analysis

Often, planned values are not achieved due to external circumstances, but how good is a building’s energy performance, really? The research team provides answers to such questions through monitoring and data analysis using classical methods of operational optimization as well as artificial intelligence for the analysis of temporal series of measurements.

Dekarbonization

The decarbonization of the building sector brings great challenges. The research team communicates this fact openly and is committed to scientific integrity. Moreover, we generate added value for our customers by maintaining our close-knit research network to facilitate the creation of synergies.
