2nd Semester  Textile Design

Analogue and digital design techniques in the fields of print, embroidery, weaving and knitting are the focus of teaching in the first year of study. The goal is a comprehensive understanding of surface design, the relation of figurative motif to ground, the effect of colours (also when interwoven), types of thread and thread systems, and the core element of textile design: the paramount artistry of the pattern repeat.

CONSTRUCT

The students acquire a broad repertoire of techniques for creating surfaces, both experimentally and applied. They create two-dimensional units from individual elements by hooking, crossing, looping or knotting. On the basis of this understanding, there is an in-depth examination of the techniques of knitting and weaving on the machines, which are developed in a further step on the basis of digital data processing.

MAKE IT CIRCULAR

The students deal with Circular Design Strategies in order to get closer to the basic idea of a Circular Economy. They will not only think and develop on the product level, but also look at/design a system. They practise recognising and defining their own system boundaries. Based on the results of previous modules, design strategies are replayed, thought through in a future-oriented way and subjected to a "circular upgrade".

Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
4 – High quality education/knowledge transfer
8 – Decent education and economic growth, Unexplored market potential.
9 – Promote sustainable industrialisation, support innovation and resilient infrastructure
12 – Sustainable consumption and production
