Music improvisation has reached a tremendous level of diversity, not only spreading to genres that aren't necessarily connected to jazz or free jazz but to a vast geographic area. Globalisation and above all the internet have allowed faster communication and exchanges, artists from all continents are diving into electroacoustic improvisation, algorave, noise music, sound art and more. Cedrik Fermont is a Berlin-based Belgian-Congolese composer, musician, mastering engineer, author, radio host, concert organiser, independent researcher and label manager (at Syrphe) who operates in the field of noise, electronic, electroacoustic, sound art, and experimental music since 1989.
Cedrik Fermont and has collaborated with dozens of musicians and vocal artists around the world. He occasionally composes music for sound installations, theatre and choreographies. He has received several awards: Kunstpreis Berlin – Jubiläumsstiftung 1848/1948 in Berlin (2024). Golden Nica - Prix Ars Electronica in the Digital Musics & Sound Art category (2017, together with Dimitri della Faille for their book Not Your World Music about noise music in South-East Asia, (2017). Best prize, audio category at Côté Court festival, Paris/Montreuil, France, for an experimental short film by Gisèle Pape (2005).
