In this artist talk, RYBN.ORG will discuss digital infrastructures from the ground of their artistic researches and projects, starting by the very practice of setting up their own server and various self owned, administrated and maintained computing services. To put more perspective, RYBN.ORG will underline some key elements collected during their extensive investigations on high-frequency trading (Antidatamining, 2006–2015), on offshore banking (The Great Offshore, 2011–ongoing), and on human-in-the-loop computing processes (Human Computers / Telecommuters, 2015–ongoing).
RYBN is an artist collective created in 1999 and based in Paris, France. RYBN leads extra-disciplinary investigations within the realms of offshore finance, high-frequency markets and cybernetics. Among the artworks developed by the collective: a survivalist low frequency trading algorithm (ADM8, 2011), an algorithmic cabinet of curiosities (The algorithmic trading freak show, 2012), a psychogeographic GPS to visit offshore locations (Offshore Tour Operator, 2017), a kabbalistic self-destructive computational environment (GOLEM, 2018), a labor market for microworkers embedded in a chess game (AAI Chess, 2018), a collective platform to subvert telecommuting monitoring technologies (Telecommuters, 2020).
