Overview
While climate change is already a fact, its effects on tourism demand are rather unclear. The demand for new offers in reaction to the increase of heat days has not yet been verified on a large scale.
Therefore, REFRESH aims at (1) exploring how metropolitan people adapt to the climate change related increase of heat days in cities as to explain the factors influencing the their adaptation intensions with respect to their booking and travel behavior towards “Sommerfrische” destinations in nearby mountainous regions and (2) evaluating if nearby mountainous regions can benefit from the metropolitan people’s travel behavior and how they can effectively respond to this demand with sustainable multi-seasonal tourism portfolios, which integrate adaptation and mitigation goals.
