Scope
These final provisions apply to the Master of Advanced Studies (MAS), Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS), Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) and to other continuing and executive education programs that expressly refer to them.
Legal Basis
The CAS, DAS and MAS programs are delivered in accordance with the rules and regulations in force at the time of their commencement. The School expressly reserves the right to make changes and/or amendments to existing rules and regulations and to bring into force new rules and regulations during the delivery of the continuing or executive education program. All participants are required to comply with them as they come into force.
Specifically, we refer to the
- SRL 522 Academic Ordinance Governing Continuing and Executive Education at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts
- Academic Regulations Governing Continuing and Executive Education at the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture
in the collection of laws of the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture.
Admission Requirements and Recognition of Prior Learning
For details, please refer to the Academic Regulations Governing Continuing and Executive Education at the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture and to any supplementary information in the relevant course descriptions.
In brief:
- Admission to a CAS, DAS or MAS program requires a tertiary-level degree (university-level or higher vocational degree).
- People with a university-level degree must have at least two years of professional experience.
- People with a higher vocational degree must have at least two years of professional experience in a field relevant to the continuing or executive education program and have acquired the scientific skills required for the program before it commences.
- In a limited number of exceptional cases, people without a tertiary-level degree who have equivalent qualification and several years of professional experience will be admitted in a standardized “sur dossier” admission procedure. People who are admitted “sur dossier” must attend a fee-based course in academic writing/scientific work work.
- The School has the right to stipulate additional admission requirements for individual programs.
- For language requirements, refer to the academic regulations.
- For requirements concerning modular MAS programs, refer to the academic regulations.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Upon request, prior learning may be recognized and accepted as counting towards a program at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Assessing eligibility for recognition is subject to a fee. Further details are regulated in the academic regulations.
Fees for Continuing and Executive Education Programs
The fee includes the direct costs of the continuing or executive education program including digital course materials and examination fees. It does not cover the costs for specialist literature, accommodation and expenses.
An invoice will be issued as soon as the program is confirmed. Typically, fees that exceed CHF 8,000 are payable in two installments.
Fee for MAS Programs
The fee includes the direct costs of the MAS program including certification.
An invoice for the full amount will be issued upon receipt of the participant’s registration. Withdrawal from the registration after admission has been confirmed and early termination of the MAS thesis must be communicated in writing.
Additional Costs
Resits of examinations, deferment of modules and rectifications to final/MAS theses will be charged separately.
Withdrawal of Application and Early Termination of the Continuing or Executive Education Program
Details are regulated in the academic regulations.
In brief:
- Annulments/withdrawals of applications must be communicated to the head of continuing and executive education in writing (emails admissible) in any event. Withdrawals after receipt of the admission confirmation are subject to an administrative fee of CHF 200.
- Participants who withdraw their registrations within two months before the start of a program or after the School has decided to deliver the course, are liable for the full course fee.
- Participants who terminate the program early are liable for the full course fee.
The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts recommends prospective course participants take out cancellation insurance.
It is available from a range of insurance providers.
Deferments within a continuing or executive education program
- In exceptional cases and provided the course fees have been paid in full, the head of the continuing or executive education program may approve a participant’s request for deferment. Deferments (e.g., attendance of a module in the next delivery of the course) are subject to a fee.
- When applying for deferment: the participant bears the risk of the desired module not being delivered in an identical form or framework at a later date and of there being alterations to its content.
Course Postponement / Cancellation by University
In the event of an insufficient number of registrations, the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture has the right to postpone a continuing or executive education program. The registered participants will be informed shortly after the registration deadline.
Cancellation of Events and Failure to Attend
If individual events pertaining to a program are canceled (e.g., because a lecturer is ill), the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture will offer alternative courses with equivalent content as quickly as possible. The participant shall not derive any claims against the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts from such an occurrence.
Participants failing to attend classes, specifically due to illness, holidays, military service or work stress are not entitled to a reduction of the course fees: they remain liable for the full amount.
Changes to the Continuing or Executive Education Program
The Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture reserves the right to make changes to the course schedule and organization as well as to the choice and deployment of its lecturers.
Forms of instruction and requirement to attend
- Classes may be delivered as in-person or online instruction or as a hybrid form of in-person and online instruction.
- As a rule, participants are expected to attend 80% or more of the classes (in-person instruction, online classes and hybrid formats) to be admitted to the examinations/assessed assignments. Attendance will be monitored. In well-founded exceptions, attendance rates below 80% of all course units (but higher than 60%) may be compensated with other assignments. If the attendance rate is below 60%, the unit must be retaken (a fee will be charged) without exception.
- Decisions regarding the form and extent of the compensatory work for missed course units rest with the head of program. Compensatory work is subject to a fee.
Digital Instruction
Distance learning being an effective method of teaching the content and skills associated with the continuing and executive programs, there is no right to a reduced course fee if government regulations warrant a short-term switch to distance learning formats. ECTS credits and certificates/diplomas will be awarded as advertised.
Copyrights / Privacy Rights
The copyright of the course materials is owned by the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture. Course materials (written materials, videos, etc.) must not be published by the participants or shared with third parties. This includes course materials published on ILIAS (and other learning platforms) and shown in online meetings.
Online meeting must not be recorded without the prior express consent of all participants.

It is the participants' responsibility to take out an insurance policy for this kind of occurrence.
