Students at the Lucerne School of Music may spend one or two semesters at one of the School’s partner universities.
An exchange offers them the opportunity to strengthen their profile as musicians and to gather valuable experience for both their professional and personal future. It offers students a unique opportunity to gain new perspectives and to familiarise themselves with other cultures. Exchange students gather valuable experience that might prove useful later in life, e.g., when applying for further studies or for a job abroad.
The Swiss-European Mobility Programme SEMP offers grants to exchange students from European partner universities.
The Lucerne School of Music maintains partnerships with more than 80 foreign institutions.
To plan their exchange in detail, students must make an appointment with the Exchange Coordinator of the Lucerne School of Music. Moreover, each application requires the approval of the relevant study coordinator. Students interested in an exchange are expected to independently research the programmes offered by, and the application process and related deadlines at, their partner university of choice. Normally, the application process takes place via a dedicated online application tool.
The application documents required vary between universities: learn more on the website of the institution you wish to attend. In most cases, the following documents are required (in English or in the country’s official language):
The application deadlines vary strongly between universities but are mostly between February and May. Many schools have a single deadline for the entire upcoming study year, but in some institutions, applications for the spring semester are only possible during the preceding autumn semester. Most institutions list their deadlines on their websites.
Outgoing students remain enrolled with their home university and continue to pay their normal study fees during their exchange semester(s). As a rule, the host school does not charge any additional study fees. The Swiss-European Mobility Programme SEMP funds student exchanges at a European partner university. Once their place at the host university has been confirmed, students must register through the Mobility-Online platform. For more information, contact the International Office of your home school.
