The ensemble is a space for experimentation and a place for varied perspectives on artistic, interdisciplinary work in an improvising orchestra.
Inspired by the London Improvisers Orchestra, the LUIO works, among other things, with the «conduction» method. This technique is a language of conducting for large improvising ensembles and originally devised by the American composer Butch Morris. The London Improvisers Orchestra has been advancing the technique over the past twenty years.
Charlotte Hug and Magda Mayas are the joint directors of the ensemble.
