HSLU Concert Band Individuality and Groove

Each academic year, a lecturer of the Lucerne School of Music’s Institute of Jazz and Folk Music is given carte blanche to work with the HSLU Concert Band. The ensemble is made up of students and this year’s leader is bassist and lecturer Nils Wogram.

At each rehearsal, a band member enters new sheet music. The ensemble plays with it, examines it, derives concepts from it and tries to work out its musical essence. Through these processes, the HSLU Concert Band forms its personal, collective sound, which reflects the different characters and at the same time allows them to merge into a harmonious unity.
