The application field for nozzles is extensive. Experimental investigations and numerical simulations (CFD) are conducted for different types (round jet, flat jet, ...) as well as different applications (snow lances, wound cleaning, medicine, agriculture, ...) of nozzles and spray systems.
With the help of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) the flow within nozzles can be computed. It is further attempted to describe the jet development after exiting the nozzle, including jet breakup, spray pattern and spray range.
Using a high speed camera and Phase Doppler Anemometry (PDA), the divergence of a free water jet can be recorded and compared with CFD solutions.
