Modultype: elective module
Modul ID: DK.BA_+FO_3DCAD.22
ECTS: 3.
Competences: Digitality, Material & Practice
Duration/Contact study
2. – 13. September 2024
Lecture(s): Thai Hua, Felix Bänteli
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Thanks to electronic data processing, today there are new possibilities to realize ideas and designs in the form of objects.
The focus of the module is on a connection between man, computer and machine. The students learn or deepen the handling of CAD software, 3D printers or optionally the 3D scanner and understand the process chain of additive manufacturing. The module participants gain the necessary practice to work independently with the software and the machines and are able to use the techniques for project work in a targeted manner.
CONTENT
In the first week we approach the topic "3D printing and additive manufacturing in art, design and industry" theoretically. We learn how to create and model objects using CAD software and do first printing exercises with the filament printers. During the second part of the module, students specialize in a particular technique, such as ceramic printing, wax printing, filament printing or 3D scanning. The chosen technique provides the starting point for their own design project during the second week. There will be enough time for own experiments.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
module in german
ASSESSED ASSIGNMENT(S)
Documentation and final presentation, as well as at least 80% attendance.
GRADING OF ASSESSED ASSIGNMENT(S)
The performance record will be evaluated based on five criteria:
1. introductory exercise 3D modeling
2. introductory exercise 3D printing
3. own design project
4. presentation (presence, completeness)
5. documentation (quality, completeness)
RECORD
Students have completed the introductory exercise on the Zortrax 3D printer and are able to use the device and software independently. They have gained an in-depth insight with simple and advanced CAD tools of the Rhinoceross software. The module participants are able to use the learned techniques independently for project work during their studies.
