Can metal be printed in 3D? If yes, can product design students usefully adopt the technology?
In search of answers, Yuri Maurer sets off on a journey through the technologised reality of product development. At the crossover between design and engineering, he critically examines the methods of product development and familiarises himself with the potential and limits of computer-aided design and fabrication. The knowledge acquired is then incorporated into his experience in bicycle building, resulting in an applicationally focused transfer: based on his self-developed configuration matrix, he designs individual bike forks.
