Biography
Gabriela Christen was born in 1961 and grew up in Lucerne. After studying art history, french literature, and philosophy in Basel, Paris, Vienna, Zurich, and Bern, she worked as a researcher and exhibition organizer at the Swiss National Museum in Zurich. From 1994 to 1996 she was director of the museums of the canton of Nidwalden. From 1996 to 2010 Gabriela Christen worked as culture editor for Swiss Radio SRF, and from 1999 to 2003 she was deputy head of the culture editorial department. From 1999 to 2009, Gabriela Christen lectured at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in the theory major at the Department of Art & Media, and was also a member of the management team from 2002 to 2007. From 2009 to 2010 she was deputy director of the "Institute for the Performing Arts and Film" at the ZHdK. From March 2010 to February 2022, she was the director of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts - Design & Art. Currently, she works at HSLU as a researcher and lecturer and is building a platform on the sacred landscape between the departments of Design & Art and Engineering & Architecture. In addition, she is active in various foundation boards and accompanies the Baldegg Monastery in a strategy process on its way into the future.
