Overview
The construction industry is responsible for a large part of human resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. One way to reduce both and thus get closer to net zero is seen in the reuse of components and materials. This requires detailed data (e.g. type, quality, availability). There are currently first players in the market of reuse, but it is negligible.
Strengthening this market requires (i) a deeper understanding of the level of detail required for component data, (ii) technologies and processes for their collection, and (iii) business models for scalable data collection and use. In order for the reuse of components and materials to prevail in the construction industry, a large number of its players must also be convinced of their advantages.
