Overview
The net zero target can only be achieved if CO2 is captured from either point sources or from the atmosphere and stored permanently. One main challenge for integrating CO2 capture (CC) plants in industry is the large energy demand for the CO2 separation facility. This work aims to investigate CC integrated with industrial case studies. The investigation will study the various designs and operational variants of the CC plant, then using Process Integration to understand how to correctly integrate the systems. It will also consider techno-economic aspects of the integration and operation of the whole system. These will feed to an energy system model to assess how the net-zero greenhouse gas emissions goal can be achieved in a cost-optimal way. The work includes a preliminary study to evaluate if integrating P2X technology will add value to the system. A generalized guideline will be developed to present insights of the results and provide recommendations for the implementation and actionable advice.
