Overview
According to Swiss Energy Perspectives 2050+, about 2/3 of all buildings will be heated with individual heat pumps in the future, which can lead to a problematic additional load peak in the order of 10 GW on cold winter days. Together, these systems will already have a capacity of about 70 GWh with a conventional design of the water storage.
This project investigates the extent to which larger water storage tanks can be used in buildings to break these problematic power peaks. However, this requires a system-serving regulation/control and, in part, sacrifices in self-consumption optimisation, which are not yet promoted by the current incentive systems.
