Overview
People with chronic lung damage such as cystic fibrosis have to perform airway clearance exercises lifelong on a daily basis. One form of treatment is using a device like the Pari PEP-system to help clear excess sticky mucus from the lungs through breathing exercises.
At the HSLU we are working together with experts from physical therapy practice Thomas Schumacher GmbH (http://www.4füsser.ch) to make these exercises more exciting to improve patient motivation. We do this by creating a serious game that is directly controlled by the the breating activity.
Tracking the breathing also allows the physical therapist involved in the treatment to find out more about patient behaviour and needs, adjusting the game individually.
