Overview
Many rehearsal and practice rooms for instruments and vocals are in historical buildings that were never intended for musical use. The internal acoustics of these buildings are usually not specially adapted to their new role. The quality of the acoustics inside these spaces and their soundproofing in terms of incoming or outgoing sound tend to be inadequate. This project starts by evaluating selected rehearsal rooms at the Lucerne School of Music. By using standardised acoustic measurements and installing simple room elements, the long-term intention is to establish a set of rules designed to improve the acoustics in a variety of room types.
