Overview
Swisstainable is the sustainability programme of the Swiss tourism industry, which is supported by all tourism associations. It was launched by Switzerland Tourism and has been coordinated and further developed by the Swisstainable office at the Competence Centre for Sustainability (KONA) at the Swiss Tourism Federation (STV) since 2022.
The sustainability programme aims to give visibility to tourism's sustainability commitment and to support tourism service providers and destinations in their efforts towards a sustainable development of Swiss tourism. Thus, existing certifications, initiatives and programmes are integrated and recognised, provided they meet certain standards. The programme does not represent a new certification.
While the sustainability programme for tourism service providers is aimed at the coporate level, the sustainability programme for destinations enables an entire destination to position itself as "Swisstainable" if there is a corresponding penetration of Swisstainable businesses. In order to make the programme accessible to different destinations with different starting points, there are three different participation options (levels) with different accesses and requirements.
