Biography
Fabian Ille is lecturer and head of the Competence Center in Biomedical Space Research and Medical Engineering at the Institute of Medical Engineering of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
Fabian Ille earned a master’s degree in cell biology from the University of Heidelberg. During that time he founded a software enterprise for production DB’s and semantic computing. He received a PhD in neural stem cell biology from the ETH-Zürich and completed the PhD program of the Neuroscience Center in Zürich. He joined the Space Biology Group lead by Marcel Egli at the ETH-Zürich. A few years later, he moved with the research group from Zürich to Lucerne, where the Institute of Medical Engineering was founded, and Fabian Ille was promoted to scientific group leader.
Fabian Ille authored and co-authored various publications in the fields of neurobiology, reproductive biology, mechanobiology (microgravity research) and biocomputing. His research focuses on tissue degeneration and repair mechanisms in intervertebral discs, and joint cartilage in in conjunction with mechanobiological effects of mechanical unloading through microgravity.
Another area of research is the development of mathematical-model-driven software as a medical device (SaMD) and clinical decision support systems (CDSS) for cartilage and reproductive disorders. Software engineering and data mining, combined with multi-omics analyses provide the support framework for our biological experiments performed on ground, under simulated, and real microgravity.
