Biography
Ronny Hardliz is an artist, researcher, filmmaker, curator, author, and architect, who worked in Rome, Prague, London, Lucerne, and Berne, interested in the discursive character of art, architectural theory, socially relevant visual strategies, correlations in the thinking of Walter Benjamin and Georges Bataille, cinematic prehistoric art, rejuvenation as a concept of time, Kunst und Bau, art and public spheres, and documentary film as a decolonial artistic research practice.
He holds a (practice based) Ph.D. from Middlesex University in London (in collaboration with Goldsmiths and ETH Zurich) for his work exploring the dynamics of research in the arts, in which he sees a great emancipatory potential for art, architecture, and academia. He curated an exhibition on Kunst und Bau at Stadtgalerie Bern and is actively involved in the discourses on the art-architecture-public relation. He studied architecture and urbanism at EPFL in Switzerland and CMU in the United States and worked as an architect in Berne. He was a fellow at the Swiss Institute in Rome, where he started an international artistic career exploring the concept of the 'architectural’. He holds a CAS in Documentary Film by HKB. As an independent artist he moved to Prague with his partner, where his two daughters were born. Today he lives and works again in Berne with his family and is active at the Kunstkommission der Stadt Bern, as president at BAKUB Verein Basis Kunst und Bau, and as artistic researcher at the Swiss Artistic Research Network and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. His current artistic focus is on documentary film. Besides his independent art practices, participation in exhibitions, and curatorial work, he offers expertise in research as well as consultation and services in the organization of competitions in art and architecture.
He has worked at HSLU-D&K before from 2010 to 2014 at CC Künstlerische Materialforschung leading a number of interdisciplionary research projects with HSLU-T&A and HSLU-W.
