Biography
Isabelle Dechamps is part of the PhD program Eco-Social Innovation by Design at HSLU. Her research is about "Conscious Co-Creation for Social Transformation". She is exploring how mindfulness practice can support participatory design processes in Eco-Social Communities.
Isabelle Dechamps holds a Diploma in product design from Berlin-Weißensee School of Art and in art Foundation from Chelsea College of Art and Design, University of the Arts London.
She has been an active practitioner in social design and design education since her graduation in 2011. She is the founder of the social design collective and non-profit organization "be able e.V.". The goal of their work is the inclusion and integration of people from marginalized groups. In this sense, it runs design programs for people with disabilities, craftsmen from ethnic minorities, unemployed people with a migrant background, refugees, and prisoners.
Isabelle Dechamps held several teaching positions at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art in the areas of textile design and product design. She taught industrial design students at Wentworth Institute of Technology Boston. She has been part of the HPI D-School coaching team since 2016.
She led projects and workshops in India, South Africa, Bangladesh, Colombia, Ecuador, Cuba, Vietnam, and Indonesia for educational or arts institutions abroad.
