Biography
René Bärtsch, born in 1963, graduated with Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH). He was research assistant at the Institute of Lightweight Structures and Ropeways at the ETH in Zurich. From 1992 to 1998 he worked at Alusuisse Road & Rail AG, developing lightweight aluminium solutions for railway passenger vehicles. From 1999 to 2005 he was a project manager at Helbling Technik, Innovation and Engineering Services Company, in Aarau, in the field of strength and structural analysis. Since 2005, René Bärtsch is a Main Lecturer of Applied Mechanics and Strength of Materials at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, School of Engineering and Architecture and since 2007 a Professor at this University. The focus of his research activities in the Competence Center for Mechanical Systems is ropeway technology and rope applications.
