Applying for a job can seem a daunting task. But don’t worry: just take one step at a time, starting with your CV. It shows what you have done so for in terms of education and work (e.g., work experience, trial apprenticeships). It also includes personal information, language skills, hobbies and pastimes.
The next thing to do is to write an application letter. It should be personal, to the point, authentic and free of spelling mistakes. Mention the specific apprenticeship you wish to apply for in the subject line and put your personal information in the letterhead. Stick to a uniform design and format and make sure the letter provides answers to the following questions: Why this specific apprenticeship? Why the HSLU? What is your motivation? Which of your personality traits and experiences make you a good candidate for your apprenticeship of choice?
You can submit this motivational letter together with your CV and school certificates (secondary school, Multicheck, “Stellwerk” test) online
on our jobs platform.
If you are invited for an interview, preparedness is key. It pays to once again read up closely on the HSLU and about the apprenticeship you applied for and to prepare answers to some of the questions you might be asked (e.g., about your strengths and weaknesses).
