Social security

Occupational Pension

The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts provides employees with insurance (except for the School of Music) by means of the LUPK pension fund. The Lucerne School of Music has separate pension arrangements courtesy of the Gemini Collective Foundation. The benefits of both funds exceed the statutory minimum.

Special Social Allowance

The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts employees are awarded a special social allowance of up to CHF 250 a month if they are entitled to benefits for one or more children. This allowance is in addition to any statutory child or education benefit.

Salary Continuation in the Event of Illness or Accident

Provided an open-ended contract exists and after a probationary period, employees are entitled to salary continuation payments amounting to 100% of their salary for a period of up to 730 calendar days.

Maternity / Paternity

Women are entitled to 16 weeks of paid maternity leave at 100% of their salary. Men are entitled to 2 weeks of paid paternity leave at 100% of their salary.

SupplementaryAccident Insurance from HDI Global SE

By way of complement to Suva's statutory accident insurance, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts has obtained supplementary cover from HDI Global SE. This covers treatment and nursing costs on a private basis, as well as private care worldwide. Employees are also insured against special risks. The premiums for this supplementary cover are borne by the University.

Continuin education – continuing development

Dissertation Projects

The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts promotes research and develops the corresponding capacities. Furthermore it supports doctoral thesis projects by lecturers and research associates.

Sabbaticals and Paid Leave

Employees of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts are offered the chance to undertake a sabbatical or paid leave for professional or private reasons.

Continuing Education and Language Courses

Employees of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts may, in certain circumstances, make use of the University's continuing education provision free-of-charge. Attendance of the Language Centre is free-of-charge.

IT Services

Working at Home

Home/Remote Office (VPN) allows remote access to all the core data and services of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Computers, whether private or supplied by the University, can be used to access the University's data safely and easily via the internet.

Corporate Mobile Network (CMN)

The University has become a party to the contract for telephony secured by Canton Lucerne with Swisscom (Corporate Mobile Network, CMN). This benefits anyone working for the University.

Software for Private Use

Employees of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts pay a discounted price for Microsoft products for which the University has obtained a licence; these products can be installed and used on private devices.

Non-Working Days

In addition to statutory public holidays, the following non-statutory holidays also constitute non-working days: afternoons 24 December and 31 December. The statutory public holidays are as follows: New Year's Day (1 Jan), St. Berchtold's Day (2 Jan), Good Friday, Easter Monday, Ascension Day, Whit Monday, Corpus Christi, Swiss National Day (1 Aug), Assumption (15 Aug), All Saints' Day (1 Nov), Immaculate Conception (8 Dec), Christmas Day (25 Dec), St. Stephan's Day (26 Dec).

The Kita Campus Campus Crèche offers high-quality and affordable childcare.

Sports Provision

The University Sports provision offered by the Lucerne campus takes the form of free or discounted training in the interests of personal fitness.

Other Benefits

Libraries

The HSLU Card permits registration with one of the libraries and media resource centres; books and media can then be borrowed free-of-charge.

Long Service Rewards

The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts rewards long service of 10, 20, 30 and 40 years with paid leave.
