«My name is Alessio Bertelli. I am 24 years old, and I have just graduated with a master’s degree in management engineering. I chose the Double Degree route between the University of Florence and Hochschule Luzern, Switzerland.
I decided to enrol in this program for many reasons. Firstly, as a management engineer, one of my goals was to improve my language skills, particularly in English. This program offered me an ideal environment to develop these skills and enhance my communication abilities, which are crucial in today's world. Furthermore, this experience allowed me to meet people from different countries and immerse myself in cultures and traditions different from mine. Swiss culture has fascinated me since I was a child, and this opportunity allowed me to step out of my comfort zone, broaden my horizons, and grow both personally and professionally. Analysing the program offered by the university, I found the subjects extremely interesting, especially the 18 ECTS specialisation project, which represented a significant challenge for me and a valuable opportunity for personal growth.
This project allowed me to work within a company, gain practical experience, and observe innovative technologies and processes in close quarters. Thanks to this experience, I enriched my knowledge in the field of engineering, delving into subjects in a completely different way than in Italy. I also improved my English language skills and had the opportunity to immerse myself in new working contexts, which enriched both my professional and personal career.
I had the privilege of actively participating in a project at a Swiss manufacturing company, fully understanding its workings, broadening my skill set, and visiting numerous companies within and outside Switzerland, which was a further form of growth and enrichment.
This experience strengthened my conviction about the value of this path and confirmed the motivations that drove me to embark on it. I learnt to overcome challenges and adapt to new situations far from my comfort zone.
Finally, I had the opportunity to write my master's thesis during an internship at a large multinational company active in the energy sector, where I was hired as a production engineer after just six months.»
