One approach to intelligent efficiency optimization in the energy network is to use networked "energy-aware" devices. The aim of this study is to look at challenges and possible solution scenarios in order to get an overview of the complexity and potential of intelligent, networked "Energy Awareness" of devices/IoT.
A breakdown of the energy consumption of individual household appliances is very demanding and not very accurate. Therefore we investigate whether the step of load breakdown can be omitted. This can be achieved if the appliances themselves measure their energy consumption and make the measured values available to the outside world. This means that no more data has to be broken down, but can be used directly. If the devices have knowledge about their own energy consumption, we speak of "Energy Aware".
