What is the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development?
The UN's 2030 Agenda is an international framework for sustainable development. It comprises 17 global goals—the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—which the UN aims to achieve by 2030.
What is the purpose of the SDGs?
The world is currently facing numerous complex and pressing challenges that cannot be addressed with existing approaches alone. They include poverty, hunger, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation and lack of access to education and healthcare. Solving these problems requires a major transformation of both the economy and society.
Who is involved?
A wide range of stakeholders have committed themselves to promoting the SDGs, from the international community to governments, companies, NGOs and private individuals. Together, they are working towards achieving the goals set out in the 2030 Agenda.
Thanks to our in-depth expertise in all matters business and society, we are contributing to achieving a host of SDGs. What is more, we have been ramping up our efforts to integrate sustainability in all areas of activity. Most notably, these include sustainable tourism and changing mobility behaviour at the Institute of Tourism and Mobility, corporate management, sustainable regional development and sustainable health economics at the Institute of Business and Regional Economics, sustainable consumer behaviour and the sharing economy at the Institute of Marketing and Communication, and sustainable investments and sustainability in the real estate industry at the Institute of Financial Services.
We particularly contribute to achieving the following SDGs:
- SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
- SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
- SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being
One of the aims of SDG 3 is to continue to lower child and maternal mortality and fight infections with AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and other communicable diseases. Other goals include combating non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and preventing road traffic accidents and substance abuse. Everybody should have access to high-quality and affordable drugs and healthcare. In its research and consulting activities with focus on public health management, the Lucerne School of Business is developing new strategies, concepts and recommendations for the optimisation and improvement of healthcare provision.
