Overview
This project is an international collaboration with Elisaweta Masserova (Carnegie Mellon University), Sri AravindaKrishnan Thyagarajan (NTT Research and U. Sydney), Pratik Soni (U. Utah), João Ribeiro (NOVA LINCS & NOVA School of Science and Technology) and Mark Simkin (Ethereum Foundation).
The project investigates the feasibility of generating unbiased randomness over blockchains in the most challenging setting, where at any point in time all-but-one parties can become offline. The focus is on designing protocols that remain secure even if the online parties may only post a single message on the blockchain and go offline -- also known as the You-Only-Speak-Once model. This is in contrast to prior models that require a large set of parties that are online and correctly functioning at all times.
