Overview
Even though the subject of governance mechanisms is not new, it is largely under-researched in the context of tourism. Current research on governance in tourism is mostly based on case studies. Therefore, comparing governance structures in the context of different cultural and political settings and legal environment as well in a specific stage of development of the tourism industry (mature or developing destinations) is largely inexistent.
In order to realize this type of comparative research project, a cross-national research team needs to be established. The aim is to exchange ideas for collaboration in the fields of governance, sustainable tourism and travel as well as to gain experiences in working together in different cultures and language barriers.
Therefore, the objectives of this research proposal are twofold.
- building and maintaining an open collaborative research network between Vietnamese and Swiss scholars.
- developing a joint research proposal that focuses on a comparation of the tourism value chain governance (VCG) for sustainability in Switzerland and Vietnam.
