We are delighted that you are seeking to enrol on a degree programme at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. The following information on the application process should help.
Log in with SWITCH edu-ID
You need a SWITCH edu-ID to be able to start the application process.
The SWITCH edu-ID is the long-lasting digital identity used to access services associated with Swiss university level institutions.
If you do not have a SWITCH edu-ID, you can register for one in three simple steps during the application process. Please note that this requires a personal email address (a personal email address is an email address that is not used by multiple people).
- Enter your first and last name, email address and password.
- After you have accepted the terms and conditions, a user account is created. A link will then be sent to you by email.
- To activate your account, click on the link in the email
Application procedure
Applications are only possible online.
The process can be interrupted at any time and resumed later without loss of data.
Fields marked with an * are required. You will be notified if you have missed any required fields.
Please study the final provisions before submitting your definitive application. You will not be able to change your information after selecting "Definitive application".
Data transmission
A secure connection featuring SSL encryption is automatically established when the input forms are used. Information communicated to us by email, on the other hand, is transmitted without encryption. It may be viewed and modified by third parties. The transmission of confidential or personal information by email is at the sender's risk.
Required information/documents*
Depending on the programme you apply for, several or all of the documents listed below are required:
Swiss social security number
If you live or work in Switzerland, you will find your Swiss social security number (756 ... ) on your AHV pension card or health insurance card.
Personal photo (.jpeg format)
To be able to create your HSLU-Card, we will need a sharp, high-contrast passport-quality picture in which your face is clearly visible. No other people or items must appear in the photo.
Swiss matriculation number
Persons enrolling at a Swiss university level institution for the first time are issued with a personal matriculation number. This eight-digit number (e.g. 15-458-791) is printed on a yellow label affixed to the original university admission qualifying certificate.
University admission qualifying certificate
The university admission qualifying certificate is the document that grants initial access to a Swiss university level institution. Examples include a vocational, specialized or academic baccalaureate.
Swiss "Notice of removal from the register of students"
"Notices of removal" are issued by Swiss university level institutions at the time of graduation/termination of studies. Such documents may submitted later in the application process if not immediately at hand.
National ID card, passport and residency permit
Foreign applicants are required to submit a copy of their national 1D card or passport and a current residency permit. The latter must be submitted no later than the commencement of study.
Other documents
The following information, backed by the relevant references, diplomas and certificates, must be submitted:

- Internships
- Language skills
Document formats
Various documents must be submitted during the application process. They must be in a PDF format and uploaded online. Individual PDF files constituting a multi-page document may be uploaded one after the other - the system will automatically merge them into a single document. Please note: deleting one of these individual files will result in the deletion of the entire merged document.
Generating PDF documents
Use a scanner to digitise paper documents and save them as PDF files. Most printers with a scanner function are capable of exporting PDF files.
Open digital documents (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and "save as" .pdf.
Fees
The enrolment fee will be paid directly with the registration.
You may pay your enrolment fee using a PostFinance Card (debit card), TWINT, a credit card (Mastercard or VISA) and PostFinance Mastercard® Value. Once the payment goes through, PostFinance will send you a confirmation of payment via email. If you pay by credit card on the website via payment service providers PostFinance or SIX, your surname, first name, address, post code, city, email address and credit card information will be forwarded to both your credit card issuer and credit card acquirer. If you decide to pay by credit card, you will be prompted to enter all the information required for the transaction.
The transfer and sharing of your personal data takes place in accordance with the provisions of the Swiss data protection legislation or the EU GDPR. If the EU GDPR applies, the legal basis is the fulfilment of a contract (art. 6, para 1, lit b of the EU GDPR). To learn more about the handling of your credit card information by these third parties, we advise you to also consult the terms and conditions and privacy policy of your credit card issuer.
Funding
The Swiss Confederation and its cantons will cover most of the cost of your course. To help us identify the canton responsible in your case, you must complete the Student Personal Data Form online. Failing to do so will result in the loss of the aforementioned funding.
As you are required to submit up-to-date documents, the Student Personal Data Form is made available to you no earlier than three months prior to the commencement of your studies. You will hear from us in due course with details on how to proceed.
