1. Extensions
The loan period can be extended provided the item has not already been reserved by someone else. Extensions result in a fresh, guaranteed loan period of 28 or 14 days from the date of extension. Following a maximum of one loan period extension, the item must be returned. Extensions can be applied for via students' user accounts, telephone or email.
2. Returns
Items may also be returned by post. They must be well packed to avoid any damage in transit. Our address is: Hochschule Luzern – Musik, Bibliothek, Zentralstrasse 18, 6003 Luzern
3. Fees/charges
The loan itself and the reminder (usually sent via email) are free of charge.
Overdue notices are priced per item (book, CD, etc.) as follows:
1st overdue notice = CHF 10
2nd overdue notice = CHF 20
3rd overdue notice = CHF 35
Overdue notices that have not been received (via email or post) will not be accepted as grounds for late returns. Please make a note of your loan periods by consulting your user account.
4. Photocopier cards
Photocopier cards are issued against a deposit of CHF 20. Members of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts should use their HSLU Card for photocopying.
5. Music library courier
Every morning, a courier makes the rounds between the library's three locations, Zentralstrasse, Dreilinden and Mariahilf. When ordering items from our catalogue, you can choose which location to collect them from. Orders placed by 18:00 can be collected the following morning. Items may be returned at any of the locations, no matter where they were collected from. There is no charge for this service.
6. Using special collections
Our special collections may be viewed on our premises only. Separate terms of use apply. Please notify us in advance so that we can get the material ready for you.
7. Acquisitions
If you cannot find the item you are looking for in our library, you are invited to complete our online form for acquisition requests. We will notify you if we decide to acquire the item.
8. Databases and printing
The Zentralstrasse library allows print-outs to be made of databases via the photocopiers. An HSLU Card / photocopier card is required for this service.
9. Distance loans (via the ZHB only)
Requests for loans and orders of photocopies made from other libraries in Switzerland and abroad should be directed to the Lucerne Central and University Library (ZHB). Here is a short list of the costs and delivery times involved:

Delivery times (dependent on the availability of the item in the issuing library)
- Switzerland: documents for loans and copies from abroad 1-3 weeks
- Documents from central and northern Europe 2-8 weeks
- Documents from southern and eastern Europe 2-5 months
10. IDS courier (via the ZHB only)
The IDS delivery and collection libraries are as follows:

Items ordered online are collected by IDS courier on a daily basis (not weekends) and are usually available within three working days at the designated collection library. Items are kept ready for collection for one week. An invitation to collect is issued. The borrower's account shows the item as being 'on loan' from the time it is sent. Orders using the IDS courier system are priced at CHF 5 per item. Order fees are payable in cash on collection (if ordered and not collected, the fee is deducted from the borrower's account). The loan period is determined by the library making the delivery. Returns are possible via any of the aforementioned IDS delivery and collection libraries.
