The Lucerne School of Computer Science and Information Technology has chosen its location in Rotkreuz with care. It has found an exciting new home in one of the first hybrid timber high-rises in Switzerland and works closely with Zug Estates to make the campus as sustainable as it can be. Zug Estates is committed to operating its building stock with zero emissions and without having to rely on external energy supply whenever possible. To ensure their objectives are achieved, the measures adopted are evaluated scientifically in collaboration with the HSLU.
The measures include photovoltaic units on rooftops and facades, the heating and cooling of the underground storage tank—which also absorbs solar heat and the buildings’ waste heat—with outside air, and an energy network linking all the buildings on campus. What is more, the site boasts two EV parking spaces and four public EV charging stations, and the high-rise’s vertical awnings close for the night to reduce the need for heating and cooling.
