Introduction:
Biomedical experiments in microgravity provide an insight into the fundamental mechanisms of living cells. Not only astronauts benefit from this research, but also terrestrial medicine. The Institute of Medical Technology at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is currently developing a prototype for a biological experiment that will one day fly on the International Space Station (ISS). The mechanics and electronics were designed in earlier work. The existing prototype is now to be tested and improved with living cells in the laboratory.
In this work:
- you learn to work with living cells in the laboratory
- you learn to test hardware and components
- you learn to learn from test results, develop and implement improvements
- you can plan and structure projects
- gain an insight into space biology
