Planning a Student Exchange from Lucerne

Acquiring complementary knowledge and skills while you are studying abroad will add to your overall graduate profile. An exchange or study-abroad semester is also an excellent opportunity to learn about other cultures and improve your language skills. Having international experience is important if you are planning to work in an international company or in a local company which does business abroad. Being linguistically and culturally competent will also help to improve your employability.

Financing your exchange?

Tuition fees for outgoing students may be waived depending on the agreement between the Lucerne School of Business and the host institution. Your coordinator will provide you with more information.

more

You may be eligible for a Swiss-European Mobility Programme (or Erasmus+) financial grant which is available to students and lecturers going on an exchange to participating partner universities in Europe. You may also be able to organise funding through your local business association or local government authorities. The Living in Lucerne and Financial Support for Students webpages have useful information about possible contacts for financial support and grants.

Depending on your destination, your transportation costs could be a sizeable expense. Further costs you will need to consider while abroad are those of acquiring a visa (if required), board and lodging, insurance, books, any field trips and entertainment. The cost of your exchange will clearly also depend on your own lifestyle. The webpages of our partner universities and a blogpost of one of our students are a good starting point to get an idea of the cost of living you can expect.

Studierende Austausch

If you are currently enrolled at the Lucerne School of Business, please refer to the detailed documents and process described on ILIAS. Here you will also find the link to the online application tool.

It is important that you inform yourself fully about all aspects of your semester abroad. This includes the entire application process, drawing up a learning agreement, finance, accommodation, visas and insurance. Students receive more detailed information at the FAQ Information Sessions held every autumn for anyone considering an exchange or study-abroad semester in the following year. Further questions can also be addressed by email to exchange.business@hslu.ch and in person.

How an exchange fits into your studies?

Ideally exchange students should be as far on in their studies as possible. Grades, motivation and language skills in the target language of your exchange or study-abroad semester are among the main selection criteria.
